CHOOSE CONCRETE

One of concrete's greatest advantages is its versatility. For example, it can be formed with a void in the middle to accept an undermount sink so you can sweep crumbs and spills directly into the basin rather than over a rim. Metal ball or bar trivets can be added to the countertop next to the cooking area to protect the concrete sealer. Integrated drain and cutting board are common features of concrete countertops in wet areas of the kitchen.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

Concrete, like marble, granite and soapstone may stain without proper care. Spills should be cleaned up in a timely fashion to prevent the possibility of liquids from penetrating into the protective sealer. Your concrete counter is protected in two ways. During fabrication, a densifying sealer is applied which soaks into the pores of the surface to harden, help repel liquids and protect against many kinds of damage all while allowing the concrete to breathe and continue to harden over time.
Afterwards, a penetrating sealer is applied to repel liquids, causing them to bead. There are two basic types of care - general cleaning and a periodic application of a protective sealer. Mild soaps in conjunction with a soft sponge or dishcloth are recommend while abrasive cleaners and scouring pads should be avoided so as not to remove the sealant layer. Heavily used areas will show wear much like on a wood floor when it is time to reseal. This is often referred to as the patina of the concrete. We will help recommend a sealer appropriate for your usage.
A perfect surface for cooking prep, serving food, and even hobbies and reading- your countertop will establish the kitchen as the heart and lifeblood of your home.
